CULTURE & CIVILIZATION OF MULTAN
ملتان کی تمدن و معاشرت
Abstract
A society is a group of individuals who live together based on the principle that their interests are shared. Their basic necessities of life are interconnected. According to the definition of society, it is not necessary that these individuals belong to the same nation, tribe, or religion. Similarly, if we look at the Urdu meaning of tamaddun (civilization), it refers to living together in one place, urban living, social life, ways of living, lifestyle, culture, and refinement. According to Waris Sarhindi’s Urdu Ilmi Lughat (Urdu Academic Dictionary), the meaning of tamaddun is the way of living together, lifestyle, and humans living in large groups under a system. Similarly, the meanings of mu'asharat (social life) are living together, enjoying life with others, and way of life. Essentially, mu'asharat comes from the Arabic word mu'asharah, which means living together or coexisting.
Multan is a region surrounded on one side by the Hindu Kush mountains, on the other by the Arabian Sea, and on the third side by the desert, specifically the Thal desert. The land of this region is enriched by the waters of six rivers. It would not be wrong to say that this region has historically sustained the entire Indian subcontinent.
